Over the centuries, the style of both the palace and gardens has been shaped and inspired by the travels of the various owners through Europe, Africa and the Far East and their continuous patronage of the arts is clear to see in the impressive private collection on display. The property has elements of great historical importance, with 15th and 16th century tiled walls evoking Moorish designs and the 1st dated tile in Portugal, that can be found in the Lake House.
The stunning renaissance gardens, first dating from the 16th century and lovingly restored in the 1930’s, evoke the grand gardens of Italy, dotted with stone fountains and statues, the highlights being the immaculately manicured hedge maze and the elegant lake house.
