With breathtaking views of the River Douro, this typical, historical Portuguese family estate has recently been totally refurbished, adding comfort without losing any of its soul and authenticity.
Perfect for groups of friends or families wanting to enjoy all the peace and outstanding natural beauty of one of Portugal’s most treasured winemaking regions, the estate is surrounded by vineyards and is one kilometre away from Mesão Frio, a village full of history with all the charm of a centuries old wine economy.
The property stretches over several large terraces, surrounded by beautiful patios, gardens and vineyards. Different pathways through the gardens lead to the swimming pool with the most mesmerising view in the entire Douro region. You quite literally feel suspended over the Douro River as you lie by the pool. The pool house has a bathroom and small kitchen, inviting you to spend the whole day lazing on one of the many sun beds, unwinding as you contemplate the amazing view. The main house itself is beautifully authentic, with six comfortable suites, four of which overlook the river and one with a wonderful mountain view. On the upper floor, additional accommodation can be opened at an extra nightly fee, including a triple bedroom ideal for children, an extra double bedroom with a king size bed that can be converted into a twin with two single beds, a small sitting area and a bathroom with shower, plus a simple single bedroom with direct access to the garden and a bathroom with bathtub. Spread across the various terraces over which the house lies, four of the main suites have direct access to the gardens. High quality Portuguese brands have been favoured in all the ceramic sanitary ware, bed linen and bath products.
There are ample living spaces where the spectacular views seem to invade the house.
The main living room has been totally refurbished, adding floor to ceiling glass windows to further enhance the unique view. The fireplace room tells us a little bit more about the history of this family home, with its paintings and photos of the different generations who have spent many happy days here. This fireplace room opens onto another outdoor living area overlooking the river. The former cellar has been converted into a wine cellar, a place for meals and wine tasting sessions. It still has the earthen floor which was traditionally used to maintain the ideal humidity and temperature levels. For special events and occasions, a total of up to fifty people can be seated and hosted in this space. The ancient wine cellar has been converted into a gym where the original wine presses remain, now side by side with the newer machines, so that the physical workout continues. The farm’s wine is now made at another local wine press.

For a full Douro Valley food and wine experience we can organise lunches, dinners and wine tasting sessions at the house, by experienced oenologists, local cooks, chefs or Portuguese guest chefs. Daily breakfast is included in your stay and is prepared each morning by our dedicated team, while housekeeping is provided four hours a day, seven days a week. It is also possible to request other meals prepared by our cooks or by a private chef, making the most of the vegetable garden, orchard and other local products. We can prepare picnic baskets and provide tips on the best locations to enjoy them. The September and October harvest season is the best time to enjoy the wine related festivals and events but Douro has so much more to offer throughout the year including boat, golf, walking, off road and train tours up the Douro and Tua rivers. Additionally, on site you can have a game of paddle on the newly laid court, or alternatively enjoy some snooker indoors. There is private parking for up to ten cars, perfectly suited to welcoming large family groups, gatherings of friends or corporate functions.
